What is Pilates?

Author: Pilates Core Center |

Simply stated Pilates is a prescribed method of exercise done on the floor, “mat work,” or utilizing apparatus specially designed by Joseph Pilates for resistance-based body conditioning and physical therapy. It will strengthen, lengthen, stretch, balance, tone, relax and energize you.

Pilates apparatus is not your ordinary gym equipment. Its unique design and construction, utilizing increasing and decreasing spring resistance provides uniform concentric and eccentric loading, which is optimal for strengthening muscles.

Attention is given to performing each exercise in a precise and controlled manner. Focus on breath, quality and precision of movement is what sets Pilates apart from other exercise programs—minimum repetitions, maximum results.
